Lanham resident and real estate attorney, Nicole Williams will officially launch her campaign for District 23A’s state delegate this week.
“There are a lot great things going on in Prince George’s County and there are a lot of great things going on in District 23, but we can do better,” Williams said. “One of the things that I want to do is ensure that the residents’ issues are being met and all of their concerns are being addressed in Annapolis.”
In particular, the Washington, D.C. native and University of Pittsburgh graduate says she wants to address the mortgage crisis in the county. Her background in real estate law makes this a very personal subject for her. “We need to help homeowners who are undergoing financial hardships,” she said. “We also need to take it to the next level. We’ve had instances in the county where people have gotten themselves into situations where they didn’t know what they were getting themselves into based on information that might not have been on the up-and-up. That type of fraudulent activity should not be allowed here.”
Williams has even picked up her first endorsement. The Woman Under Forty Political Action Committee, a non-partisan political group that supports women under the age of 40 running for state and federal office, said it is excited to stand behind Williams. “Nicole is a dynamic, engaging young woman, and is passionate about her community and ensuring that state government continues to find innovative ways to do its job. She is a well-respected community leader and will continue be an outstanding advocate for her community when elected,” said Katie Vlietstra, WUFPAC president, in a statement. “Nicole is a role-model for young women and we know she will be a strong, respected public servant.”
Local entrepreneur Shukoor Ahmed and Bowie City Councilwoman Geraldine Valentino-Smith have filed paperwork to contend for one of the open chairs while Laurel resident Paulette Faulkner and former congressional staffer Lisa Ransom have also expressed interest.
